Jocelyn Watts

MANAGING EDITOR

Jocelyn Watts is an Australian author of travel stories, memoirs and creative nonfiction that offer inspiration to others seeking their happy places.

Previously, Jocelyn worked as a journalist, editor and communications officer with newspapers, magazines, corporations and local government. While on a break from media, she ran a wedding and portrait photography business.

“But my storytelling preference has always been about identity—who we are as individuals in this vast global village,” says Jocelyn, now based on Queensland’s beautiful Fraser Coast after decades living as a “corporate gypsy” with her beloved husband, Don Watts.

His work in the finance industry required they move locations every two to three years. Life with their three children was good, but on 16 October 2013, Don died by suicide.

Over the next five years, Jocelyn faced three work redundancies through corporate takeovers and restructures. As a result, she’s no stranger to seeking new ideas in search of her “happy place”.

“Since 2013, my happiest places have been journalling and redesigning this website from what it was with the photography business to now being a lifestyle publication designed to help others in their pursuit of happiness, whether it be through exploring the world or creating their own home sanctuary.”

Today, Jocelyn works with business partners Food Wine Pets Travel, and TravMedia, a global media network for travel media and travel industry PR professionals, to offer inspirational stories.

She is an advocate for the environment, wellness and sustainable living, and is a strong supporter of mental health organisations such as Beyond Blue, Lifeline, and the Black Dog Institute.

Jocelyn In The Media

Community Volunteer

Jocelyn is a volunteer who regularly gives her time, energy, and expertise to the community.

As a former member of the Rotary Club of Maryborough Sunrise, she continues to support the club with photography services for its fundraising calendars and special events.

She also volunteers as an usher and doorkeeper at the Brolga Theatre in Maryborough, Queensland.

In 2000, Jocelyn’s submission won the community competition to name the new riverside entertainment and convention venue.

Her early years in the Girl Guide and Scouting movements inspired the name Brolga.

While camping near her hometown of Barcaldine, she watched brolgas dancing at Lara Wetlands and years later re-told the Aboriginal Dreamtime legend of Brolga to Cub Scouts while serving as their leader.

In 2005, another of Jocelyn’s written submissions secured Maryborough, the first Guinness World Record for the most people on a pub crawl.

She has also volunteered her PR and photography skills to community groups, including school committees and Maryborough Masters Swimming.
