William C. Scott, photojournalist by nature!
JOCELYN’S father, William (Bill) Scott, had a natural instinct for photojournalism and his images captured the attention of judges across the globe. Bill joined the Australian Photographic Society in the 1970s and despite a lack of formal training, he gained national and international recognition as a Master Photographer. He became a member of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain in 1991 and was later awarded a Licentiate Diploma. His main passion was nature photography but even with that he focused on animals in action, rather than anything static. His many photography awards included a bronze medallion in Rome, a gold medal in London and two gold medals in Austria. A photo titled Mother and Chicks attracted a bronze medallion in the 1989 International Exhibition of Art Photography, Italy, as the only Australian acceptance that year. In the 1999 Austrian Super Cirucit, which attracted 35,000 prints and slides from 118 countries, his slide titled Going Nowhere won the gold medal in the Luck, Humour and Fun section. The same image was awarded a gold medal in the 2001 Austrian Best of Circuit, which had a total of 24,000 entries from 102 countries. Bill was invited to attend the 2001 Austrain Super Circuit gala presentations but was unable to attend. His gold medal arrived by post in Barcaldine a week after his death on September 8, 2001, from pneumonia. Corellas – Gold Medal, London 1992. Photo: W.C. SCOTT
